“Recruitment isn’t easy and it’s always going to be a gamble, so do your research.”
Over the past 15+ years I’ve personally witnessed the real estate industry evolve. I’ve seen many aspects that seem to have recurring ebb and flow (such as advertising trends and training focuses). However, there is one thing that has been on a stable and positive trajectory. This is the formation of high performing teams based on merit rather than perceived ‘status quo’.
As a business owner, I like to have a hands on approach to recruitment and am always on the lookout for breakout methods to share. One of the best I have come across recently is from Sam Rigopoulos of Jellis Craig Inner North. Sam’s method is to create a team skill-set matrix that begins with his own strengths and weakness and then recruits talented people like Nigel Harry and Paula Bevis to balance out and compensate the missing pieces. The result is a well-rounded team that serves the customer as well as being a contributing factor to their success as the number one team in the Jellis Craig group.
Recruitment isn’t easy and it’s always going to be a gamble, so do your research. Don’t simply fill a position with a person. Fill it with someone who can bring attributes that aren’t currently in abundance. This will create a team that’s functional, efficient, diverse, strong and above all, a raging success.
