Tailoring your marketing, message, and stance to reflect them and build better relationships.
Would you speak to your best mate in the same manner you speak to a potential vendor? In short, probably not.
For one, the conversational subject matter contrasts like chalk and cheese, not to mention your tone of voice AND the context of delivery are significantly different.
Marketing is essentially a continuation of a conversation through mediums other than physically talking, and this is why pushing out one singular message to the masses is a no-go. It’s like speaking to everyone you know in the same tone of voice, no matter who they are. Sounds silly, right? This is where tailoring your marketing message to suit specific audiences comes into play.
In order to build solid relationships, you need to understand who your market is, what they are into and how they want to be spoken too. From there, you can tailor your message to attract the right audiences.
Let’s say you’re based in a coastal area, it would be safe to assume that the location is of interest to the marketplace — but how can you tailor your message further and provide interesting marketing that keeps you, the agent, front of mind?
If we start thinking about age demographics, we might assume that those well into their housing lifecycle would care about topics such as ways to minimise salt damage on their homes and investment properties, whereas those who are younger and newer to their real estate journey may be more interested in home recycling tips that save money and the environment.
Remember, it’s about building relationships with your target audience/s, which at the end of the day is simply a continuing conversation.
These are my tips to recognising your audience and how to start building better conversations by seeing the world through their eyes.
01. Appeal to their hearts.
Keep your consumers interested by appealing to things that are close to their heart. An emotional connection will resonate with them and keep them interested for a longer period of time.
02. Get them talking.
Asking open ended questions is likely to start a conversation. If there’s one thing people love, it’s talking about themselves. Once you’ve found a niche, ask questions.
03. Educate & inform.
Finally, presenting your audience with well researched information on your current market, or any topic that’s relevant is a sure fire way to keep them coming back for more. Just make sure you’re changing it up because saturating your platform with the same messages over and over can cause people to tune out.
