For the past five years, there has been a presence that looms over real estate that many aspire to but few will achieve. We had the immense pleasure of speaking with Australia’s Number 1 Real Estate Agent, Alexander Phillips. We discussed the evolution of competition, the strength in weakness and what he sees next with views from the pinnacle of the real estate industry.
It’s been 12 months since Australia broadly came to terms with the gravity of the global pandemic. State shutdowns saw technology use within the real estate industry soar and for Alexander Philips, so too did technology’s equal counterpart: human nature. “One on one connection with people is what we really did well last year and what we’re doing even more so now. Spending time in one on one buyer appointments ensures we’re building authentic relationships, as well as showing people you actually care” said Alexander. In addition to maintaining and advancing human-connection with the market, Alexander’s advice to surviving during ‘negative times’ is to take time to switch off from negative news.
As Alexander puts it, “continually looking at negative news reports can put you in a negative state which can rub off on how you deal with people. At the end of the day, consumers are looking for someone positive to deal with”.
The past year saw the continuation of high performing agents evolving. Alexander Phillips made it an active mission to further change processes to maintain his step ahead and push relevance in his wildly successful market: “We found this past year that a lot of agents that we would compete against and would consistently win business over have caught up to what we do. We’re in the middle of changing a lot of our processes to maintain our step ahead and to become more relevant than ever” shared Alexander.
The bettering of competition would be seen as a pain point to many, however, this is considered positive by Alexander who sees this as an opportunity to propel his team to be better. Additionally, Alexander firmly believes that this bettering of real estate professionals is slowly evolving the negative assumptions of the real estate industry, something that is beneficial to those firmly within the industry, those starting out, as well as those in the property market.
Being Australia’s No. 1 doesn’t mean you’re the best at everything. This is something Alexander can attest to, and that therein lies its power according to the prominent agent: “There are a lot of things I know I’m not good at and I’m aware of it. I ensure that there is always someone better to do it and this ensures that every part of the sales process is 10 out of 10 for our clients”. Not wanting to give too much away, Alexander shared with us a pivotal observation about real estate agents, “A lot of agents need to let go because they’re doing too much, which results in them not doing what they should be doing”.
As a real estate professional who has reached astronomical heights, only Alexander knows what’s next however he did allude to this including continually building PPDRE, elevating the already great culture and focusing on longevity. Loving what he does and doing it so well, Alexander hopes to leave a blueprinted legacy for the real estate industry as a whole.
